8th March is International Women’s Day, which is not just a work or family holiday for women, but a chance each year to reflect on women’s political, social and economic situation in the world and a day selected and initiated by Russian feminists in 1913. This panel takes this chance using the concept of 8th March – in the same manner as the exhibition of Russian women artists staged in Moscow earlier in 2013 which also used this title – and aims to throw “More light” on the situation of women artists and feminism in contemporary art. The panel is composed of artists, curators and critics who have each made quite different projects, artworks and activities to further discussions about the situation of women and women artists and feminist debates in contemporary art.
